- What is a loop gouge for?
- Etching. It scrapes the skin off without cutting through, so light glows softly through the flesh. It is the tool that separates a face from a picture.
- Can I use woodcarving tools on a pumpkin?
- Yes. Linoleum cutters and clay ribbon tools work well for etching. Keep them for pumpkins after that, because pumpkin is wet and dulls a fine edge.
- What tool thins the pumpkin wall?
- A wide serrated scoop. Take the side you will carve down to about one inch. Thinner cuts easier and lets more light through.
