No-Carve Pumpkin Decorating Ideas
You do not need to cut a pumpkin to decorate it. Paint a face on with a stencil, press in plastic push-in pieces, wrap it in tape or lace, or cover it in glitter. A no-carve pumpkin lasts three to four weeks instead of three to four days. Small children can do all of it.

1. Paint a face with a stencil
Tape a stencil on, trace the shapes, take the paper off, and paint inside the lines. Acrylic craft paint sticks and dries in an hour. This is the one we do most. The free stencils below are the right shapes for it.
2. Push-in pieces
Plastic eyes, noses and teeth that press straight into the skin. No tools. A four-year-old can do a whole face in five minutes, and you can pull the pieces out and move them.
3. Tape stripes and chevrons
Wrap painter's tape around the pumpkin in stripes, paint the gaps, then peel the tape off. Clean lines, no skill needed.
4. Glitter and glue
Brush on white glue, roll the pumpkin in glitter, let it dry. Do the whole pumpkin or just the stem. It sheds a little, so do this one outside.
5. Draw straight on
Washable markers or paint pens work on the skin. Trace a stencil first so the face is the right size. Wipe it off and try again if you do not like it.
6. Stick on paper shapes
Cut the black parts of a stencil out of black paper or felt. Glue them on. The adult does the scissors. The child does the placing.
7. Chalk paint and a chalk face
Paint the pumpkin with chalkboard paint. Once dry, draw a face in chalk. Change it every day.
8. Lace, fabric and ribbon
Pull a lace sleeve or tights over a white pumpkin. Tie it at the stem. Fifteen seconds, and it looks like it took an hour.
9. Drill holes for light
A power drill and a big pumpkin. Drill holes in a spiral or a pattern, hollow it out, and put an LED inside. No knife, but this is an adult job.
10. Thumbtacks and pins
Push gold or coloured thumbtacks into the skin in a pattern. Trace a stencil outline first, then follow the line with tacks.
11. Stack three small ones
Three small pumpkins on top of each other, held with a skewer through the middle, make a pumpkin snowman. Paint a face on the top one.
12. Paint the whole pumpkin one colour
A white or black pumpkin with a single orange face painted on it stands out from every other pumpkin on the street. Two coats, then the face.
